Ride-sharing service Zimride said today it's raised $6 million in Series A funding led by the Mayfield Fund. The "community economy" company has signed up 120 universities and companies to facilitate local carpools, and now it's looking to expand publicly to popular driving routes. To help connect drivers with trusted passengers (and perhaps future offline friends), Zimride uses Facebook and helps facilitate payments.
